Knock, Knock... 7.29.10

As election day (November 2nd) approaches, so the door knocking begins.  When a candidate running for office in your district knocks, it is an opportunity to share your opinions and educate them about what is most important to you

Download a printable "Door Hanger" brochure. It has many purposes:
  • Use it to find voting resources, and to read the disability community’s talking points.
  • Print and give to candidates who knock on your door.
  • If you give a door hanger to a candidate, write your name, address & number on it so they can easily contact you if they’d like to follow up with questions.  (Or circle an agency’s website on the back if you don’t want them contacting you.)
Spread the word by sharing them with friends, family and colleagues.  Don't forget to vote in the Primary on August 10th!  Details here.

Wellness for Everyone  7.1.10

Hennepin County recognized Dakota Communities with its Wellness by Design Silver Award at a ceremony on June 17th, 2010 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, Brooklyn Center.

The award recognizes organizations that find innovative ways to ensure healthy work environments and encourage healthy employee lifestyles. In total, only four nonprofits were honored. Toni O’Brien, Director of Community Life, was thrilled to accept the award on behalf of Dakota Communities.

Excerpt from Award Summary:
”Dakota Communities offers interventions and opportunities in five areas: nutrition, physical activity, pet-assisted therapy, volunteerism, and healthy lifestyles.  What is particularly unique are the partnerships employees have with the people Dakota Communities supports.”

 Partnership with Tapemark  6.28.10

The Tapemark Charity Pro-Am golf tournament has been a generous donor and partner of Dakota Communities for many years.  Read Angies's story "Cooking and Friendship are the Perfect Ingredients" and learn more about Tapemark on their website at http://tapemarkgolf.org/2010/01/dakota-communities/.  For more about the impact of the tournament, view a letter that appeared in the June 28th Pioneer Press.

Join our Triples Team!  4.30.10

Baseball is in the air with the new Target Field in Minneapolis, and we are hoping for lots of triples this season. Every time a Twins player hits a triple this season, a gift of $300.00 will be made to Dakota Communities by Art and Kris Staples of Staples Financial.  Art and Kris are financial advisors in St. Paul who specialize in leveraged legacy giving.

People like Elaine and Jimmy, served by Dakota Communities and pictured left, are avid Twins fans.  Whether they are playing sports themselves or watching their baseball heroes, they bring their own qualities of heroism to life’s challenges and opportunities.

We invite you to join your passion for baseball with the joy of making a difference for the heroes served by Dakota Communities.  Read more about our Twins Triples Campaign.  See an article and video on the three triples Denard Span hit in one game on 6/29!
